Recently Wenzel America, the North American arm of the precision German metrology company, held a unique live event at their Wixom, Michigan headquarters that compared the effectiveness of seven major metrology technologies.
After the event they began releasing a Metrology Matters Live video series and this latest focuses on laser line scanning measurement. It highlights their Shapetracer 3D Line Scanner. Unique, among this type of 3D laser scanner, the video shows the Shapetracer mounted on a rigid-frame CMM and Renishaw PH10 head as it scans an uncoated part.
September 2015 · Wixom, Michigan – In the latest edition of the Metrology Matters Live: 7-Systems Analysis video series, Wenzel America’s Applications Engineer Jonah DeLongchamp explains their unique approach to laser 3D scanning with the Shapetracer technology.
This is video number six in their eight part series focusing on the best use of each of the seven major measurement technologies in use today for reverse engineering, quality, production and inspection.
One unique piece of Wenzel’s approach seems to be the pairing of the most advanced non-contact scanning technologies with their rigid frame CMMs. By integrating technologies in this way Wenzel creates repeatable inspection processes and quality improvements by using non-contact measuring methods, but with the stability of traditional CMMs.
“Typically, with laser scanners you can only scan white objects. In order to measure another colored part, you would first need to coat the part, “ DeLongchamp explains in the video. “With Shapetracer you can scan lighter objects, dark objects, different colored objects by changing a few parameters.”
