This week with GearUp with WENZEL we are introducing our external gear expert, Mister Dwight Smith with his passion for the gear industry. He started his gear journey over 30 years ago! Today he is the VP of Nidec Machine Tool America.
Interview with Dwight Smith from Nidec Machine Tool America.
1) How did you land in the Gear industry?
Coming from a background in metrology and computers, I entered the gear industry over 30 years ago representing M&M Precision, which is now Gleason Metrology.
2) What about the Gear industry do you enjoy the most?
I get to work with great people, interesting technology and, of course, gears!
3) What is your current responsibility at Nidec?
I get to do sales, marketing, and project management, as well as teaching gear training seminars and serving as the gear grinding technical resource.
4) What are the current trends in the gear industry?
We are seeing hard gear finishing for nearly all automotive applications, including grinding internal ring gears for planetary gearsets. Gear skiving implementation is increasing steadily.
5) What in your opinion is currently most needed in the gear industry. Where would gears be turning next?
Training and education are always needed. As new people join the gear industry, we need to provide the training needed to help them succeed and grow.
GearUp with the GT Series
After successfully launching our new GT Series last year WENZEL is excited to show the gear market what we are offering our customers. Gearing up for IMTS 2022
