17025 Service meetingRecently, I went to our factory in Wiesthal Germany for our annual International Service Meeting. We covered a myriad of topics, including 17025, the process of calibrating CMMs, and the changes to some of the 10360-x specifications. WENZEL spends a considerable amount of time on tools and processes to insure that the calibration we provide brings value to our customers.

One of the main tools WENZEL and other service providers have is a 17025 Accreditation for performing calibrations. From ISO – “ISO/IEC 17025:2005 specifies the general requirements for the competence to carry out tests and/or calibrations, including sampling. It covers testing and calibration performed using standard methods, non-standard methods, and laboratory-developed methods.” Why is this important to the end customer? The main thing is that customers can be confident that there is a independently audit process in place to perform calibrations on their CMMs.

ISO 17025 CertifiedFor customers that are price sensitive, the extra cost of finding and employing a 17025 accredited service provider can be justified by the confidence in the service provider. There is a significant investment in time and money in obtaining the 17025 accreditation. This investment in the accreditation means that the service provider is looking to provide correct and reliable calibrations for their customers.

While the 17025 accreditation does not guarantee that the service person is the best technician in the country, it means there is a repeatable process that his/her company has developed and had accredited.  For the customer it means that after the calibration, there is some level of confidence that the CMM is measuring  according to what the service technician found when they were at your facility.

Wenzel Factory

Additionally, while this is not directly related to 17025, my visit to the factory confirmed my confidence in WENZEL products and services. Several of the presentations shared the lengths that WENZEL goes to to continually innovate and develop the technologies we use now on our CMMs and those technologies of future products. This investment by our management clearly shows a road map to the future.

All of this comes back to when a WENZEL customer needs service for their CMM. you have the backing of a factory trained technician working on the customers machine. There are several layers of support for those customers here in the U.S. and at the meeting we met face to face with the additional layers and members of the global support team.

In summary, choose a service provider for your CMM that is 17025 accredited. Consider choosing a service provider that is factory trained for your CMM. If you are looking for a new CMM, or looking to retrofit your CMM, please consider WENZEL.
